Nature & Wildlife

Nature & Wildlife
Barbados boasts an abundance of natural wonders, and being the only limestone island in the Caribbean chain some of these wonders are particular to Barbados alone. Due to the limestone of which the island is made, Barbados has a number of caves, the most well-known and developed being Harrison’s Cave which features a number of caverns and springs and lends to a greater understanding of how the island came to be all those years ago.

Another natural phenomenon resulting from the limestone structure of Barbados is gullies. Basically a gully is a cave without its roof, a cave that’s caved-in, so to speak. The gully provides cool, moist soil and is where the most lush flora and fauna can be found. There are a number of gullies in Barbados that have paths and tours leading through them.

Apart from the gullies and caves, Barbados also has an oceanic park, featuring many tanks with local sea-life and interactive elements, including a touch pool and swimming with the Rays, perfect for adventurous children.

The Wildlife Reserve is always a favourite as it allows one to observe the animals in their natural habitat and not in cages. This is the best place to see our famous "Green Monkey".

Between the beaches, caves, reefs, and gullies, Barbados is full of natural wonders yet to be explored.
